The Icknield Way Association was inaugurated in 1984 with the following objectives:

  • To urge the official adoption and completion of the Icknield Way as a National Trail linking the existing Ridgeway and Peddars Way National Trails
  • To promote and publicise the use of the Way and its amenities for the benefit of all users as appropriate
  • To promote a body of informed opinion that will improve the enjoyment and knowledge of the Icknield Way

We need your support because the Association continues to be the only voluntary organisation looking after the interests of the route as a whole, monitoring any actions that may threaten its integrity. We work in co-operation with highway authorities and other stakeholders with an interest in the route to carry out improvements. The Association co-ordinates a team of voluntary local wardens who are its ‘eyes and ears’ along the route (see below).

Please join the Icknield Way Association and help us protect and maintain the path.  Included in the membership is a twice-yearly newsletter. The Icknield Way Association is a not for profit organisation with a Constitution.

Wardens

We aim to have a network of wardens covering all the route. Where we have gaps in coverage we would welcome people local to the route to take on the voluntary role of checking the maintenance and signage. Please make contact if you would like to become a warden.

The various challenges of improving the access on the route need local knowledge and local contacts. If you are able to assist then you assistance would be appreciated.

Newsletter

The Icknield Way Association published a newsletter twice a year – copies of older newsletters and specific articles are available on the Newsletter page.
